Fold tab in half and pin in place to top centre of cosy. Sew seams across the top and down sides.

MEASUREMENTS

To fit bust 82-92(97- 107:112-122)cm; Finished measurements: Bust 97(113:129)cm; Length to back neck 54(57:60)cm

MATERIALS

6(7:7) 50g hanks of Erika Knight Studio Linen in Bone 71004401.

Pair of 4mm knitting needles or 4mm circular needle.

Two circular needles any size, 4mm or finer (optional see Note)

TENSION

20 sts and 32 rows to 10cm square over patt using 4mm needles.

ABBREVIATIONS

beg beginning; cm centimetres; cont continue; k knit; purl; patt pattern; RS right side; skpo slip, k1, pass slipped st over; sk2togpo slip 1, k2tog, pass slipped st over; st(s) stitch(es); tog together; yf yarn forward.

NOTES

  • When working on a large number of sts, it is sometimes easier to use a circular needle but work backwards and forwards in rows, not rounds.
  • As the yarn is quite slippery and the stitch pattern very open, you may find it easier to use wooden or bamboo needles rather than metal.
  • For the 3-needle shoulder cast off, we have suggested 2 circular needles which can be 4mm or finer.

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)

With 4mm needles, cast on 99(115:131) sts, loosely but evenly.

1st row (RS) K2, [yf, sk2togpo, yf, k1] to last st, k1.

2nd row P to end.

3rd row K1, k2tog, yf, k1, [yf, sk2togpo,

yf, k1] to last 3 sts, yf, skpo, k1.

4th row P to end.

These 4 rows form the patt and are repeated throughout.

Work in patt until back/front measures 39(41:43)cm from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.

Shape for sleeves

Keeping patt correct throughout, cast on8stsatbegofnext4rows. 131(147:163) sts. Cont straight in patt until back/front measures 54(57:60)cm from cast on edge, ending with a wrong side row.

Next row Patt 35(41:47), cast off next 61(65:69) purlwise, patt to end.

Leave a long yarn end to work the shoulder cast off row, then slip the two groups of 35(41:47) sts onto the same circular needle.

TO MAKE UP

Using the 2 circular needles, join each of the shoulder seams, hold the right sides of the front and back together and using the long yarn end, cast off the sts of one shoulder from the sleeve edge towards the neck, taking 1 st from each needle together, fasten off. Turn the work around, and cast off the other shoulder from the sleeve edge towards the neck, taking 1 st from each needle together, fasten off.

Knitting For Beginners

Knitting For Beginners

Here’s our beginner’s guide to casting on, casting off, and knitting the basic stitches, so if you’ve always wanted to learn to knit, there’s no excuse not to have a go!

Top knitting tips

  • Always knit a test square to check your tension. For example, the pattern may say your work should measure 10cm square over 22 sts and 30 rows. If your tension is tighter, you may need to try a larger needle, or a smaller one if your work is looser. Getting the correct stitch tension is more important than the row tension.
  • New stitches are knitted onto the right needle, slipping old stitches off the left needle.
  • When you finish a row, the left needle will be empty and the right needle full. Turn the right needle round to become the left needle and start knitting new stitches onto the empty right needle.
  • When following a pattern, there will be a key to tell you what the abbreviations mean. For instance, ‘K1’ means knit one stitch, ‘sts’ means stitches.

1. Make a slip knot and place it on a needle – pull the yarn to tighten it on the needle, so making the first stitch. Hold this needle in your left hand. Put the right hand needle into the stitch and loop the yarn under and around it.

2. With the right-hand needle, pull the loop of yarn through the stitch and slip the loop onto the left-hand needle to form a second stitch.

3. Put the right-hand needle between the two stitches you’ve just made. Loop the yarn under and around the right-hand needle as before.

4. With the right-hand needle, pull the loop of yarn through the stitch and slip the loop onto the left-hand needle to form the third stitch. Continue until you have the required number of stitches.

How to work knit stitches

The knit stitch is also known as garter stitch.

1. With the yarn at the back of your work, slip the right-hand needle into the front of the stitch on the left-hand needle, bringing the point of the right-hand needle out behind the left-hand needle.

2. Pass the yarn around the right-hand needle as you did for casting on.

3. Pull the loop of yarn through the stitch to make a new stitch on the right-hand needle, sliding the old stitch off the left-hand needle. Continue to the end of the row.

How to work purl stitches

1. With the yarn at the front of the work, put the right-hand needle into the stitch on the left-hand needle, bringing the point out in front of the left-hand needle.

2. Pass the yarn over and around the right-hand needle as shown.

3. Pull the loop of yarn through the stitch to make a new stitch on the right-hand needle, slipping the old stitch off the left-hand needle. Continue to the end of the row.

How to cast off

1. To cast off on a knit row, knit the first two stitches onto the right-hand needle. Keeping the yarn at the back of the work, put the left-hand needle into the first stitch, as shown.

2. Lift this stitch over the second stitch, taking it off the needle.

3. You will be left with one stitch on the right needle. Knit another stitch and repeat to the end of the row.

4. When there is only one stitch left, slip this off the needle and thread the yarn through the loop to secure it.

And once you learn to knit…

Try making a simple scarf: cast on enough stitches for your desired scarf width. Knit until the scarf is long enough.

Knit the scarf entirely in garter stitch, or try knit and purl stitches on alternate rows, for stocking stitch. You can also try ‘knit one, purl one’ for a ribbed effect, or ‘knit two, purl two’ for a more defined rib.

People are not sure whether this guy’s reaction was appropriate or not!

It’s difficult to say how you would react if the person next to you started to fall off a cliff, and fortunately most of us will never find ourselves in such a position.

Would you freeze in terror or reach out a desperate arm in time to pull them back up to safety?

Unfortunately for YouTube personality Jay Alvarrez, his filmed reaction to model Mary Shum tumbling from a Mallorcan cliff earned him a pile of internet criticism.

Bikini-clad Mary had attempted to jump into the ocean, when she lost her grip. Panicking, she tried to reach to Jay for help, grabbing his ankles as she slipped perilously close to some jagged rocks.

However, his reaction was to move his legs out of the way; allowing for the sickening plunge.

The video was viewed thousands of times, and people on Reddit – where the baffling footage was shared – were confused and angry about Jay’s inaction.

Some just couldn’t understand why the young man couldn’t have at least tried to stop the woman from tumbling from the edge after she lost her footing.

However, others were slightly more sympathetic, noting how his leg jerking away was probably just a natural reaction:

He would have been dragged down with her if he let her grab him, and it’s instinct to back up if someone grabs for you.

Fortunately, Mary survived the fall, and her then-husband Alexander ‘Sasha’ Tikhomirov – who shot the footage – was able to explain the situation in more detail.

2 Ways To Keep Your Lymphatic System Healthy That Every Woman Should Know

0

You probably know all about your body’s various systems.

These collections of organs and vessels are each responsible for a different function: Your circulatory system brings oxygen all over your body, for example, and your digestive system is responsible for getting nutrients into your body to keep it healthy.

But there’s one very important system that everyone forgets about — the lymphatic system.

Technically, the lymphatic system is part of your circulatory system, and kind of operates like its quiet, shadowy twin. A system of lymphatic vessels carries a clear liquid called lymph, which is responsible for helping move your blood around as well as for serving as a line of defense against sickness. It’s full of all kinds of white blood cells.

And because it’s responsible for not only moving things throughout your body and out of your body, your lymphatic system often comes into contact with nasty things, like bacteria, viruses, and substances that your body would rather get rid of.

For women, this is especially important to remember. Major lymph nodes, which are organs full of immune cells, are located under the armpits and behind the breasts, making that area a hotspot for potential health risks, and why you need to pay extra attention to that area.

Keeping your lymphatic system healthy is key to keeping your whole body healthy, and for maintaining breast health. Learn a few tips below to keep your body in great shape.

What Is Your Lymphatic System?

Your lymphatic system serves two major functions: it transports material, the same way your blood does, and it’s responsible for your immune system.

The lymphatic system also collects extra fluid from your other organs and returns it to the bloodstream.

Can Dogs Eat Celery: What You Need To Know About The Healthy Treat

0

Celery, in my opinion, is one of those vegetables that has a bad reputation for absolutely no reason. It always seems to be available in your local grocery store; its quality tends to be pretty consistent; and it’s refreshing, healthy, and a necessary ingredient in soups or stocks. It also provides colorful companionship to the classic game-day hot wings, carrot sticks, and bleu cheese dressing.

But have you ever found yourself snacking on some celery and wondering if your dog can safely have a bite, too? I know my dog will beg for just about anything I am eating, and I always feel a little guilty saying no.

So, can our dogs eat celery? Is celery good for dogs like it is for us? The answer is that celery is safe for dogs to eat, and some vets actually even recommend it — but there is a safe way to serve celery to dogs, as well as an unsafe way. Keep reading to learn how much celery a dog can safely eat!

Are Sunflower Seeds Healthy For You Or Not? Everything You Need To Know

0

Many fond memories from my childhood have one particular thing in common: sunflower seeds. For most of my youth, they were my absolute favorite snack.

No summer car trip was complete without a big bag of salted sunflower seeds. I remember the glee of popping them open with my teeth, spitting the shell out into a little can or, even better, out the car window, and crunching on the little yummy seed.

As I grew up, I began to wonder if sunflower seeds were actually healthy for me. Was there a chance I was consuming too many of these salty seeds? Should I consider replacing them with a different treat altogether, like these yummy-looking blueberry snacks?

In this article, we’ll discuss if your sunflower seed intake has nutritional benefits, or if you should only be enjoying them in moderation. We’ll also find out if too many sunflower seeds can be bad for your health.

These tiny snacks are yummy and fun to crack open, but are there dangers lurking inside those salty shells? Keep reading to find out more!
