Daily, weekly, monthly cleaning list

0

I like to have a tidy house and it is possible, even with children.  However, with four children, I have given up on having a home that looks pristine. If I’m being completely honest, I don’t want it to look pristine.  I want it to look like a home that our family loves to be in, to hang out in, to play in.

I rely on my weekly cleaning list as well as my daily & monthly cleaning list to keep us on track, without having to worry about the house too much. ????

Depression – In memory of Robin Williams

0

Depression, anxiety and panic attacks are not signs of weakness.
They are signs of trying to remain strong for far too long.

Following the tragic death of Robin Williams, I ask you share this on your wall for just a day to raise awareness and help support those who have been through it, who are going through it and have even been through it themselves. Let’s show those who suffer that they’re not alone. 1 in 3 of us will suffer with this at some point in our lives and will need love and support.

A Tribute in memory of Robin Williams – 21 July 1951 – 11 August 2014

How Clear C-Section Drapes Let Moms Meet Their Babies in a New Way

0

Some hospitals are now offering the option for parents to use clear surgical drapes as part of  “gentle” Cesarean sections. Here’s what experts have to say about the trend, and what you need to know if you’re considering a clear drape c-section.

Last year, photos of a mom named Allison giving birth, taken by doula and photographer Tracy Abney, went wildly viral. The reason: Abney’s images illustrated how incredibly heartwarming it can be for new parents to welcome their newborn in a clear drape, or window, caesarean section. The trend is considered one element of a “gentle” C-section, in which bonding with the baby takes a higher priority, as long as both the birthing parent and baby are doing well, a mom’s arms aren’t strapped down, the team allows immediate skin-to-skin, if possible, and a new mom can breastfeed in the OR or recovery room, Abney explains.

This version of the procedure marks “a change in the attitudes toward C-sections, where the care team—the obstetrician, anesthesiologist, and nurses—aims to make the C-section experience in the operating room as similar as possible to the labor and delivery room,” notes David Garfinkel, M.D., attending physician at Morristown Medical Center, and senior partner at One to One FemaleCare, in New Jersey. “A gentle C-section allows a woman to be almost as involved as if her birth was happening vaginally.”

G. Thomas Ruiz, M.D., OB-GYN Lead at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, agrees that conventional C-sections might make it tougher for parents to be involved and attain a certain level of intimacy. “When we do C-sections, they’re usually draped, and we create a sterile field,” Dr. Ruiz explains. But C-sections that use a clear drape can be a game-changer, because it allows the mom to witness the birth.

The option to go this route while welcoming a child via C-section has become increasingly buzz-worthy. Here’s what expectant parents need to know about the option.

What does a clear drape C-section entail?

As Dr. Ruiz noted, a typical C-section involves a solid drape that prevents a mom and her partner from seeing past her bra-line, or just below the breasts. But with a clear drape section, there’s an opaque portion and a clear portion.

Abney concurs, sharing, “The opaque drape is either clipped or Velcro-ed to the clear drape. The initials cuts are performed with the opaque drape in place.”

But just before the baby’s born, [the doctor] can drop the solid portion of drape, so parents can actually look through the clear plastic drape and see the baby delivered, Dr. Ruiz explains.

Squeamish about taking in your incision site? It’s unlikely that you will, Abney notes. “I tell my clients to imagine laying down flat on their bed and ask them if they can see down to their pubic bone,” she says. “Most pregnant women cannot. Then, add in an opaque drape that is often pooled on top of the breasts, and you really can’t see to where the incision is.”

Why might parents want to do a clear drape C-section?

Given that cesarean deliveries by maternal request only account for 2.5 percent of births in the U.S., most women who have C-sections weren’t planning on it. And many who do undergo C-sections “were expecting to witness a vaginal delivery where you can see everything going on,” Dr. Ruiz says. It’s for this reason that using a clear drape might offer an emotional benefit for a mom. “It keeps them a little more involved and engaged in the delivery process,” Dr. Ruiz notes.

Abney can personally attest to the need for an option like a clear drape. “When I had my C-section—and many of my clients have said the same—I felt very disconnected from the birth,” she notes. “Everyone saw my daughter before I did. I could hear her, but not see her. I didn’t see her until she was cleaned up and wrapped in a blanket, then she was taken away and I didn’t see her for a long time. Clear drapes help the mother feel like she is part of the birthing process. She can see her baby before it is taken to the warmer. She can see the baby when everyone else does, the moment the baby is born. She can match the sound of the baby’s cries while watching the quiver of the baby’s little chin.”

How might a clear drape change the procedure?

In addition to allowing a mom to be more involved in her C-section, the window gives the mother an early bonding opportunity with her baby that she would get immediately during a vaginal delivery but not as immediate with a conventional section, notes Linda Dudas, MSN, RNC, CNL, Unit Director Obstetric Specialties at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

While Dudas says there really is not a downside to using the window, it is possible that “the patient or her support person may get uncomfortable with seeing the baby right at delivery, as they are wet, and [there is] lots of vernix and blood on the baby,” and it “may cause fainting.”

In the end, most hospitals that offer the option leave it up to the expectant parents to decide if it’s right for them. “For the most part, the patients seem to like the experience,” Dudas says. “We leave the option of utilizing the drape completely up to the patients.”

If you’re interested in using a clear drape, or window, should you end up having a C-section, Dr. Ruiz recommends discussing it with your OB-GYN and birth team ahead of time and making it part of your birth plan.

24 Dramatic Photos That Deserve to Be Looked at Very Carefully (Spoiler: They Are Hard to Forget)

Sometimes we have bad days when everything around us seems to go wrong. During such days, we usually crave supportive hugs or may even rethink the purpose of living with a glass of wine in the evening. Our compilation will show you some tragic situations that we’re all too familiar with.

Have you ever been a hero of any real drama? Here at Bright Side, we hope you haven’t, but we all should be ready for the surprises that destiny might have waiting for us.

The very moment you need to squeeze those fingers as tightly as possible:

There could be no sadder picture than that of a pizza left in the wild.

The very moment you smell fried bacon and come too close to the frying pan:

Have you ever been in the same situation?

The perfect place for an accident

The very moment you regret not having bought a submarine:

“Look, I’ve cooked paella!”

Bye, tablet! See you in 47.5 years!

They’re giving a presentation to 100 people with the help of just one laptop.

When you’re alone and have plenty of time to notice small details:

It looks as if a bloody fight took place here, but it’s actually just spilled paprika.

“Bought a new car on Friday for my wife. Saturday night a 50-ft-tall tree fell on it.”

“Today, I found the worst watermelon ever.”

What do you know about being hurt?

When you forgot to take that tissue out of your pocket before putting your jeans into the washing machine:

“I closed a large toy store today. This is what most receipts look like on a store’s final day of business.”

So much pain and disappointment combined into one photo…

When your happiness depends on your math skills:

When you mistakenly use sugar powder instead of flour:

“This is how my long-awaited $160 fishing rod arrived.”

A couple more minutes and this will become the reason for a traffic jam.

You need to collect and wash every berry. Yes, those are blueberries.

“I’ve rolled my left ankle no less than 7 times in the last 12 months.”

“Yay! I finally found a 4-leaf clover!”

Which of these photos made your heart beat faster? Please tell us about how you’re feeling in the comments!

18 People on Their Happiest Day

0

Each of us can probably remember the day when happiness seemed endless. Usually these days are associated with such events as a wedding or the birth of a baby. Yet sometimes even small things are enough to make you break into a broad smile.

Bright Side decided to cheer you with photos of happy people and at the same time ask what makes you truly happy? Tell us about it in the comments.

This guy and his girlfriend got into business class after rebooking.

As this lucky guy admitted, he was “smiling like a little girl.” And he had a good reason for it: a comfortable massaging seat, high-quality service, a gorgeous menu, champagne, and other unlimited drinks.

A 99-year-old lady is arrested, but it’s just what she wanted.

The Dutch police jokingly arrested an old lady for a whole 2 minutes just because it was on her list of unfulfilled wishes. Well, everyone has their own dreams.

This couple is excited about their engagement.

By the way, Amanda and Todd are already married, and now they’re waiting for a baby. Some people were skeptical about them starting a family because Todd cannot walk and has to use a wheelchair. Yet we all know it’s not an obstacle for true love.

This woman found a job after 2 years of searching.

Her first day was successful, and she loves her new job.

This boy received comics as a gift from the author.

This boy is a fan of Spider-Man comics, and he received a gift from one of their creators, Brian Michael Bendis. This is how the author decided to encourage the child, who got into a car accident.

This girl is excited about the party her parents threw for her.

Audrey recently celebrated her third birthday. Her parents threw a party for her and took into account their daughter’s unusual wish: Audrey wanted the balloons and the cake to be…poop shaped.

A homeless man was given a complete transformation.

Jose Antonio had been living on the street for 25 years until one day a beauty salon owner noticed him. Yesterday’s homeless man turned into a fashionable hipster and even found a job.

A blind guy holds a cat for the first time.

The guy’s happy. The cat surely isn’t…but all cats are like that.

This baby is so happy to see his mom.

His mom, Michelle, is also very happy.

This guy had a great time in Spain for free instead of his namesake.

Joe McGrath is extraordinarily lucky: a group of complete strangers offered him a free vacation in Spain instead of their friend (whose name is also Joe McGrath) who refused to go at the last moment. At first, Joe hesitated, but then he accepted the offer, and he didn’t regret it for a second.

This man saw real colors for the first time in his life.

With some types of color blindness, special glasses can help people to see the real colors. Now this man can finally see the world in true colors, and his reaction is unforgettable.

The newlyweds who accidentally met Tom Hanks.

Newlyweds Elizabeth and Ryan had a wedding photo session in New York’s Central Park and suddenly came across an actor who went for a run. They were in seventh heaven that Tom Hanks “ruined” their photo session.

93-year-old Evelyn plays in VR glasses.

This is the very moment she saw a huge dragon on the ceiling.

The baby is happy she was born. And look how happy her parents are!

We can only admire the most photogenic family in the world.

A blind man saw his wife for the first time in 10 years.

It became possible thanks to bionic glasses. It is so great that science is constantly developing. And these ninjas seem to again cut the onions right in front of us.

This guy just went to a music festival.

The lucky one!

He hit the jackpot at the arcade.

What a score!

Nothing special. Just monks riding a roller coaster.

You shouldn’t be afraid to try something new.

14 Popular Photos That Turned Out to Be Clever Fakes

0

You’d think everyone is aware that not everything you see on the internet is true. And yet, many people blindly believe and admire photos that sometimes turn out to be fake. How many of you thought that a cow resting on a BMW hood was skillfully fabricated? What about the photo of an iceberg that shows the top and underwater bottom? Many people use it as a desktop background. Well, it’s a fake too.

Bright Side gathered 14 viral photos that are still quite popular online. They’ll surprise you and some will put a smile on your face while others may even shock you!

A purple forest in Scotland

A photo of the purple trees on the Isle of Skye looks so impressive that many people are eager to see it in real life. But many of them become very disappointed when they arrive here. The thing is, someone painted the forest purple in Photoshop. In fact, a real photo was taken near the Shotover River in New Zealand and then edited in Photoshop.

An island shaped like a star and a crescent

“The Island of Molokini — a natural star and a crescent — located between Maui and Kahoolawe, Hawaii” is the well-known description of the photo. The only truth here is the name of the island, Molokini, that really looks like a crescent. A star was added using a photo editor.

One drop of seawater magnified 25 times

This photo has been viral for several years. Many of you might be surprised at the amount of plankton in just one drop of seawater. However, the title of the photo is quite confusing. In fact, you would have to filter the amount of water enough to fill a swimming pool with a special net to gather that much plankton. After the filtration, all these organisms would fit into a glass. Therefore, that much plankton can be found in dozens of tons of water — not in one drop. Besides, you can see the side of a Petri dish in this photo.

A woman sitting like a frog

Obviously, this photo was edited and many people were amazed by the woman’s flexibility. But the photo on the right is the only real one.

An iceberg underwater

This well-known photo that many people like to use as a desktop background is actually a combination of 4 separate images. According to the author of the image, Ralph Clevenger, the photo of the clouds was taken in Santa Barbara, California, the top of the iceberg was shot in Antarctica, the bottom part — in Alaska. Besides, it was an ordinary photo of an iceberg that Ralph turned upside down and placed it underwater in his image. Thanks to the right lighting of the bottom in the photo editor, the iceberg turned out to be very impressive. But now we know the truth.

A shark swimming on the Houston highway during the hurricane flooding

Believe it or not, this is a shark on the freeway in Houston, Texas.

87.4K people are talking about this

This eerie photo has become viral on social network websites after the strike of Hurricane Irma in September 2017. However, it’s just a clever composition of 2 photos. Here’s the original photo of a shark.

Photos of sharks swimming on highways became quite popular during almost every extreme weather event since 2011.

A 4 y.o. boy protecting his sister after an earthquake in Nepal

This photograph became popular after the earthquake that happened on April 25, 2015 in Nepal. That is when numerous photographs of the tragedy, including this photo, were submitted to social network websites. The photo shows a boy hugging his scared sister. However, the photo was taken in Vietnam in 2007 by photographer Na Son Nguyen. As he told BBC News, he met these children in one of the villages in Vietnam. They were playing while their parents were busy at work, but as the girl saw a stranger she started crying and the boy hugged her.

This photo became viral among the Vietnamese Facebook users who titled it “the lost orphans.” Then the photo was used to show “the Burmese orphans,” as well as “the victims of the civil war in Syria.” The photographer even had to write on his Twitter account where he actually took the photo in the first place.

This is what happens when lightning strikes sand:

A photo under such a title can often be seen on the internet. The truth is, when lightning strikes sand, it can form fulgurites, also known as the petrified bolts of lightning. They can only form in the sand, not above its surface. The photo above shows a piece of log covered with wet sand. This is one of the artworks made by Sandcastle Matt, who uploads the photos of his unusual hobby on Flickr.

A cow getting warm on the hood of a car

At the beginning of 2013, a photo of a cow resting on a car’s hood first appeared on the internet. At first, the image didn’t draw much attention. But on October 18, 2013, Surrey Roads Policing Unit published this image on Twitter under the title: “Remember as days get colder animals are attracted to the warmth of cars so check wheel arches or other hiding places.”

The post has launched the image into the stratosphere of popularity and since then it was published thousands of times on different websites. In fact, the cow was edited in Photoshop, otherwise, the front of the car would’ve been crushed under the weight. The author of the photobomb is unknown, but Surrey Roads Policing Unit played a major role in the popularization of the image.

A monster cat

The photo started to spread all over the internet in 2003. The title said that Snowball weighed 87 lb and his mother lived in a nuclear power plant. In fact, the cat’s name is Jumper and he’s a regular-sized cat. His owner Cordell Hauglie made a joke by enlarging the cat in Photoshop and then showed the image to his friends. He had no idea just how popular he and his pet would become!

Steven Seagal photobombing Vladimir Putin

During his visit to Russian Martial Arts schools, actor Steven Seagal was photographed with Vladimir Putin and other important figures. As soon as the photo was uploaded on the internet, a similar fake photo appeared in which the actor is seen photobombing the Russian president. Many people believed the photo was real, but the actor behaved correctly and didn’t photobomb the president.

The Scream in Theresa May’s office

In September 2016, a photo of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, and 27 members of Cabinet ministers surfaced on the internet. The photo became viral because of Edvard Munch’s The Scream hanging on the wall. But the photo turned out to be fake and the real photo shows a completely different work of art.

A carved cabinet that looks like a photo glitch

This photo appeared on the internet in 2013. Many websites claim that it is “A carefully carved cabinet that looks like a digital glitch.” Actually, it’s a computer concept of furniture made from oak designed by Ferruccio Laviani. The end-product of the design was a bedside table that was presented during the furniture exhibition in 2013 in Italy. Therefore, the photo above shows just a digital concept, not a real cabinet.

The other side of Jupiter

There’s an interesting story behind this photo. Many people doubted its authenticity and are sure it was edited. They also use the photo below as proof.

When you first look at the semi-sphere, you have doubts about the authenticity of the photo of the biggest planet in the Solar System. The truth is the first photo is a real image that was actually sent back by the Cassini space probe around Saturn. At the end of 2000, on its way to Saturn, Cassini took a photo of Jupiter’s south pole. You can see this photo on NASA’s website.

But in this case, the “proof” photo is actually a fake: the photo of Jupiter was edited and pasted onto a ball. Those who still have doubts can watch this video, where this ball is cut in half.

Do you know of any other popular photos that are totally fake? Maybe you even have some edited photos of your own! If so, share them with us in the comments!

Mom Sees Newborn’s Face And Refuses To Take Him Home Until His Siblings Call A Meeting

0

Robert Hoge may not have looked like a “normal” baby when he was born in Australia 44 years ago — but that is precisely what makes his story so unbelievably unique and special.

Robert was born with a giant tumor on his face the size of a tennis ball. His legs were also deformed to the point doctors had to amputate them.

In the days following his birth, Robert’s mother was so shocked about his appearance that she refused to see him. She refused to take him home.

For several complex reasons, Robert’s mother really struggled with her son’s deformities, and she was incredibly open about said struggle.

But before you judge, you should know that Robert’s mother is not a villain in his life’s story.

Wait until you meet this incredible man today, at 44 years old, and hear how his mom impacted his life in such a surprising and unexpected way…

Video Credit: FOX 2 St. Louis / FOX 2 News Original Video / FOX 2 News – Facebook

[H/T: Miranda Bryant for DailyMail Online]

44 years ago, a mother of four healthy children gave birth to her fifth child, a baby boy with severe deformities.

Robert Hoge of Australia was born with deformed legs and a massive tumor between his eyes.

Robert’s parents were so stunned by his face that his mother refused to see him for a whole week after he was born. She didn’t want to take him home. In fact, she was so horrified that at one point she said she wished he would die.

“He is so ugly,” she told her sister.

Eventually, Robert’s mother had a change of heart. She grew to accept her son’s appearance. After a pivotal family meeting, it was decided that Robert would come home. His four siblings all agreed they wanted Robert to be a part of their family.

On one hand, it may seem easy to villainize Robert’s mother. But on the other, incredibly, he has come to understand and defend her initial concerns — and that is all that matters.

Robert says she was overwrought about raising a child with special needs, and terrified at the thought of Robert and her family being bullied and ridiculed because of his appearance.

With a sturdy family dynamic in place, Robert underwent surgery with proper care and support. Surgeons removed the tennis-ball-sized tumor and constructed a nose for him using cartilage from his toes.

However, Robert’s legs were in such poor condition that doctors had to amputate them and replace them with prosthetics.

In September 2016, Robert Hoge explained to NPR how and why he knew so much about his mother’s initial feelings about him — and why he had come to accept and learn from them.

“The reason I know all of that was because one of the doctors at the time encouraged my mother to keep a diary. And she kept this lovely blue diary with beautiful handwriting in it and that was never hidden away from me. It would sit on the couch beside her, or it would be on her bedside table. … And every now and then I’d ask mum to read me a bit from her book. And so she was really open and honest in that book about her feelings about me, and she was really open and honest with me from a very young age about her feelings.

And I think I had a few times where I was a bit concerned and a bit worried and couldn’t quite understand, but I think then it just clicked one day that it was like a movie that has some sad parts in the middle but has a happy ending. I was finding all of that out after knowing that my parents had decided to bring me home.”

Absolutely incredible.

Robert told Miranda Bryant for Daily Mail Online that he only has positive feelings towards his mother and that his entire family was “amazing, loving and caring.”

By the time Robert turned 30, he was a devoted husband and father. He says his mother’s memory helped him navigate fatherhood.

Robert, his wife Kate and their two daughters reside in Wynnum, a beautiful suburb on the shores of Moreton Bay in Brisbane, Australia.

Robert found work as a successful journalist, then went on to become a public servant, motivational speaker and author.

He injects humor, honesty and self-deprecation into his writing.

For example, he captioned the photo above — which he posted on his Facebook page — with the following:

I promised some more author photos and I think we’re all in need of some levity at the end of this week, right?

This is the photo I’d use if there was an online author dating site (and, you know, I was dating).

In 2013, Robert put his writing skills to use by penning his memoir entitled Ugly.

One reviewer on Amazon says, “This is a touching account of an innocent boy growing up thinking he was normal but slowly and sadly discovering that he wasn’t, in a society obsessed with good looks. And how he blossomed by not only accepting but celebrating who he is in the midst of what our society shuns and look away from.”

Robert is sharing his unbelievable story to help encourage others to accept themselves for who they are.

He has rejected further surgeries that would make him look more conventional.

Please SHARE Robert’s inspiring story (and ultimate happy ending) with your friends on Facebook!
