Woman Lost 82 Pounds And Didn’t Even Have To Give Up Chocolate, Pizza, Or Wine

Meet Kate McGinty, 34, who decided to take her life in her own hands, and make the best of it. Kate had been trying to lose weight for years – unsuccessfully because she had been trying to do it the wrong way, through different types of weight-loss pills and appetite suppressants.

As most people know, however, there’s no magic pill that’s gonna make you lose weight. It is done through healthy, conscious eating habits and staying active, something that Kate had not been doing. But it all changed one day in 2015, when she decided she’d had enough.

Suffering from knee pain from multiple leg surgeries, inactive, weighing over 200 lbs, and exhausted from her lifestyle, she saw a picture of herself from a few years ago when she had been 50 pounds lighter and that sparked a desire to change within her. She recently sat down with Popsugar and shared her story – something she also does daily through her Instagram account.

After seeing that picture, Kate immediately hit up the elliptical which she’d had upstairs at home, but had to quit shortly after since, she said, “my legs were burning and I was so out of breath.” But then she saw a weight-loss program her friend had shared to Facebook called 21 Day Fix program, which promised 30-minute workouts she could stream at home, and a simple nutrition plan which was not overly restrictive – it even included chocolate and wine. So she and her friend Lauren started the program together and now, Kate looks like a completely different person.

The program Kate uses provides their clients with a nutritional guide that has small, color-coded containers, and uses real, nutritious food that’s easily attainable and doesn’t take a long time to make. She also had the chance to keep eating a lot of the foods she likes, but this time they had healthier alternatives for ingredients.

Kate, who is a vegetarian will usually have a protein shake with fruit blended in for breakfast, spaghetti squash or zoodles with tomato sauce for lunch, and tacos made with two corn tortillas, vegetarian ground beef and filled with vegetables and topped with salsa and guacamole for dinner.

She will usually snack on fresh fruit with nut butter and granola or popcorn, and not stick to designated eating hours – she’ll eat when she is hungry.

Kate has now lost 82 pounds, but the journey wasn’t easy.

When she first began to work out, she started with 30-minute home workout videos, every day of the week. In five days, she’d do cardio and strength training, while two days were “active recovery”, consisting of pilates and yoga.

Kate explained that it soon became her routine, and even though the workouts were hard, she liked that it challenged her “both mentally and physically.” She said she sometimes felt so tired she would burst in tears, but after the workout was over, she’d feel amazing, accomplished, energetic.

Even the new eating regimen was difficult since she explained it was “mentally exhausting” to put energy into her food for the first time. Until then, she’d been ordering takeout almost all the time, and didn’t know how to cook. But by week 3, after the end of her 21 days, she had started to get adjusted and decided to go for another three weeks. And then within the first ten months, she had lost 70 pounds!

Two years into this routine, she switched it out, increasing the amount of food and changing her workouts, and then she lost another ten pounds. She is now 82 pounds lighter than when she started and dropped from a size 16 to a size zero or two.

Other than her leaner body and more athletic condition, Kate’s weight loss also brought a number of other victories, like no longer needing cortisone shots in her knee, being cured of heartburn, and she even started to sleep better.

She stays motivated by witnessing how her life has drastically improved these past few years – but her husband deciding to join her was also an extra push.  “Now we have 30 minutes together every day, where our goal is simply to be better versions of ourselves,” Kate explains.

Kate is now a  Beachbody coach, aiming to “mentor other women through the programs,” and help them improve their lives. Her advice to people beginning their weight loss journey is to keep in mind that “it will be tough. This isn’t easy for anyone, so don’t expect it to be easy for you, either.” She added that you should focus on the short-term goals because then those victories will be more attainable and they will eventually add up to “big results.”

“If you love someone, you want to treat them, surprise them, remind them how you feel…” he said, as quoted by Marie Claire. “Whether that means a weekend away somewhere, or a bowl of fruit in the morning laid out in the shape of a heart… I know Victoria thinks I’m romantic like that.”

For both Victoria and David Beckham, they felt the spark when they first set eyes on each other. It was “completely love at first sight,” Victoria Beckham told Elle, according to the Daily Mail. It was on an airline ticket stub that she wrote her phone number and “he told me he went home and wrote the number on so many other things in case he lost it,” she went on to say. “We found the ticket the other day!”

The couple got married on July 4, 1999, according to Harper’s Bazaar, and their family is complete with their four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. In everything they do, they make sure to put their kids first. Victoria Beckham told Hoda Kotb on Today, “the kids are our priority, and everything we do revolves around the children.”

Victoria and Beckham have spent 20 wonderful years together as husband and wife, and they never forget how lucky they are to have each other in their lives. “We support each other and, you know, we’re very lucky to have found each other and lucky that we’re growing together,” she said, as quoted by Women’s Health.

For all that she does for him and their children, David Beckham knows that she deserves to be cherished. For her 42nd birthday, he wrote to her on Instagram, “Let us spoil you because you deserve to be spoilt by your husband and our gorgeous children.”

While they have been open about the beautiful times they’ve shared, they haven’t shied away from admitting that they have had tough times, too, like any other marriage. But sticking by each other has only made their family stronger.

“We know each other better than anybody. People have talked about, ‘Do we stay together because it’s a brand?’ Of course not,” David Beckham told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. “We stay together because we love each other, because we have four amazing children,” he continued. “Do you go through tough times? Of course. That’s part of relationships. It’s part of marriages. It’s part of having children. It’s part of having responsibilities.”

Having stuck through the difficult phases has made the happy times even more memorable for the couple. In a letter that Victoria Beckham wrote to her teenage self, published on Vogue, she wrote, “You will never discuss with David how many children you both want; you don’t say to each other, ‘Where shall we live?’ You don’t discuss any of that because you will be young and in love. Even when you don’t necessarily want the same thing, your support for each other will mean that you will stick together and grow up together. And it will be worth it.”

A few years ago, the doting father and husband also shared about the mother of his children, “These little ones have the most amazing mummy that they love so much… And I love her for many reasons but the main one is because she gave me the most amazing children…”

The family shares a beautiful bond with each other and the couple stand by each other through thick and thin.

The bride wrote a Reddit post talking about the situation. “I (26F) have been with my now-husband (26M) for roughly 4 years,” the bride wrote at the beginning of a now-deleted post, according to Fox News. “Things have always been rocky with his mother.”

She went on to say that her fiance and she have been dating each other for four years and during this entire duration she never had any sort of relationship with her mother-in-law as “she is overbearing and manipulative, and my husband admits the same.”

As a woman belonging from an affluent background, her mother-in-law always looked down upon her and called her names for growing up in a middle-class household, she explained in her post. Therefore, when the couple got engaged things got worse. Even when the couple did not want a lavish ceremony they went on to plan one out of a feeling of obligation. “It always felt like we were planning out of obligation,” she explained.

But she “flew into a blind rage” when her mother-in-law invited 80 people just two months before the ceremony, 65 of whom were not in the official guest list. She also informed her would-be daughter-in-law to invite them officially because their flight and hotel booking had already been done.

She “sends me a detailed spreadsheet with about 80 people on it, telling me that none of these invitees were optional, and I had better invite all of them,” the bride recalled. This mandate frustrated her because she could not afford to invite so many people at the last moment when the wedding was supposed to be a 50-people affair.

This is when the bride decided to not give in to her unrealistic whims. She decided to call off ENTIRE wedding. The couple then went to a park and got married, with just 2 of their best friends in attendance. But now she wants to know if she did the right thing. “This kind of flew me into a blind rage. I called everyone and cancelled. Did I overreact?” she asked.

When asked how her mother-in-law reacted on knowing that the wedding was called off. She wrote she was “visibly horrified” because she now had to call the 80 extra guests and inform them to not fly down.

According to Daily Mail, she stated. “Honestly, it felt really good to finally see her squirm for once.”

Most of the commenters opined that though last-minute cancelation does create a nuisance, her response was perfect in that situation.

“Not an overreaction at all,” one commenter wrote. “I’d have said, ‘enjoy your wedding! We won’t be able to make it.’ and then let her deal with the fallout.”

Another person commented: “The question is: did both of you liked the way your wedding in the park went? If you did, just forget about it. What really matters is what you want. That’s my opinion of course.”

The stress response is a normal physical and psychological reaction to life events. In small doses, stress can actually be a positive thing – it can promote effort and push us to take necessary action.

However, if the demands of daily life exceed one’s ability to cope, our physical and mental health can suffer.

Our brain is hardwired with an “alarm system” to protect us from any perceived threat. Should this system detect a threat, our body instantly releases hormones to deal with it. This is known as the “fight-or-flight response.”

Under normal circumstances, once the threat is neutralized, the brain returns to its natural state. However, for some people – because of constant exposure to (past or present) stress – the transition from heightened awareness to a more relaxed state proves very difficult.

As with most brain functions, our alarm systems are highly individualistic.
